Until I was 16 years old, I was the baby of the family. Then along came Ms. Ella, a cousin! What a learning experience it was for me to suddenly be sharing the spotlight with a little baby. Moody teenage me got jealous pretty often, though I never admitted to anybody. Growing up some changed that though and I love this little girl to bits. :)
It's hard to tell, but those pink-on-pink polka dots are glittery! :D |
I love the pieced backing and the quilting. I straight lined around the patchwork sections, then did the big zigzagging through the white areas. I'm not sure why I chose that but I have to pat my past-self on the back for that one! Lol. I didn't mark or anything, so it's certainly not perfect. But I worked harder on this quilting than any of the others and it worked out. :) Also like Ms. Layla's quilt, I appliqued Ella's name on it to give it a personal touch. This was before I started labeling my quilts, so I guess my brain wanted it to be labeled somehow!
I absolutely love this pattern, there's so many possibilities! I think I saw something similar to this on Pinterest originally, but I didn't have a specific pattern to follow. I just decided on the size of square I wanted and built up from there.
Thanks for reading y'all! Have an awesome Thursday and don't forget to check out TBT at Jenn's blog, there's always lots of fun entries to check out and there's a chance to win a prize!
I love Ella's quilt! You are right, so many possibilities too. Great job on the quilting. I try not to mark quilts too. Gives it more personality I think.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda! I'm keeping this pattern up my sleeve, I'm sure it will be useful in the future. :) And good to know I'm not the only one not marking! Lol. I had neither the drive nor motivation to draw so many lines!
DeleteI really like this, especially her name on the front. Great job on the quilting. I would have had to mark those lines.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anja! I loved putting the names on the quilts when I made them. I'm not sure why, it just seemed right. :)
DeleteI really like the zig zag quilting too, and how you personalized it. Great idea to make a quilt that will grow with a child.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shasta! She reminds me of a 13-going on-30 kind of girl, so I had to make something that wouldn't be babyish and cast aside quickly. Gotta love my little diva. :)
DeleteI like your choice of pinks--and I'm sure the gray with the pink kept your nausea to a minimum. I think it's a perfect growing up quilt.
ReplyDeleteThanks JanineMarie! That gray definitely kept me well enough to press forward! Lol. I will say, the glittery pink-on-pink polka dots were my favorite. How can I not like glitter?! :)
DeleteGreat quilt design for a small child. It is not one she will grow out of.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dasha! :)
DeleteVery cute fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThanks Zen quilter! I think I got most of these at Hobby Lobby, but I might have gotten the white-on-white polka dots at Jo Ann's. I have no idea about the polka dots on the back though! :)
DeleteI'm sure Ella must have loved this... there's just something about little girls and pink. Though I've yet to do it (because I have a horror of appliqué), I love the idea of having a child's name right on their quilty. And here's my pro (ha ha) tip for your, whenever you quilt something that comes out a little wiggly, just call it organic. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn! No need to fear applique, it's super easy! The hardest part is making sure the letters are the right way before you start cutting. :) And yes! I'll have to remember that imperfect quilting=intentional organic! Hahaha
DeleteAnd thanks for linking up with Throwback Thursday @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting it! :)
DeleteElla's quilt is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks elle! :)
DeleteElla's quilt is so beautiful and I bet she is still using it. The colors and fabric are so perfect for a little girl. Nice quilting too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! The last I had heard, her and her brother's quilt (which I will probably share in the next TBT link up) were on their beds! It made me so happy to hear they were being used. :)
