I'm sure I'll think of some more things that I want to do, but these are at the top of my list this year!
- Make a quilt to give away. Now that I'm becoming more confident in my quiltmaking, I want to use it to give back. I have a stack of solids that I won a little while back and I plan to use them. If you follow Quilting Jetgirl, you probably saw her sampler quilts that she made using the same solids! I'm planning on using her free block tutorial as a basis for mine.
- Try new things, with the main one being CURVES. I've been meaning to tackle curves for a while, but I keep putting it off for one reason or another. I've got a pattern in mind by SLOstudio that is supposed to be good for introducing yourself to sewing curves, so I'm determined to tackle them and at least see if they're something I want to keep trying. I'd also like to attempt some paper piecing as well.
- I've had a pixel quilt on my mind for as nearly as long as I've had this blog. Candy Coated Quilts is actually the blog that really brought it to mind because I saw it from planning through finish. Again, I kept putting it off because it intimidated me, but after finishing the Legend of Zelda baby quilt for my boss, I feel like it's within my reach now. I've been doing some of the mathy/planning stuff, so I'm nearly ready to get that show on the road!
- Finish some WIPs! City Blocks is still folded neatly on my fabric shelf with the fabric for backing close by. I've been wrestling with quilting ideas for months and I think it's time to just jump in and get it done. I also have my Orange Peels! I'm really close to having enough peels for a top I think, so I'll hopefully get that one pieced soon. I want to get those guys done so I can snuggle under them!
- A quilt for Mr. LBC. He hasn't asked for one or hinted at wanting one; typically, he'll just steal whichever one I'm not using! :) I would really like to make him something special though. I've been tossing ideas around, mainly featuring A LOT of applique, but I'm not sold on anything yet.
- Label, label, label! I've started this the past few months, so I've got a bit of a head start! I plan to label anything that comes out of my sewing room, whether it be a quilt, pouch, mini, etc. I really like labeling now that I started it, so this is something I'll be happy to continue. :)
- More consistency with blogging. When I first started blogging, I tried to post something 2-3 times per week and, honestly, it drove me crazy! I work 40+ hours a week and had other responsibilities that made it where I couldn't generate enough content for that many posts for very long and it made me feel like a failure. Although I don't want to get back to that sort of expectation, I would like to get more of a schedule or rhythm so that I don't go from posting 3 times in one week to being silent for nearly 3 weeks. My hope is to post at least 1 time per week, with a over achiever goal of posting twice per week.
- Along with consistency with blogging, I'd like to clean up and update my blog a little bit. I am far from a computer whiz, but I plan to learn some and attempt to personalize my blog a bit, as well and make it easier to find things in my archives.
I'm sure I'll be back before then, but just in case I'm not, have a very Merry Christmas, my quilty friends! :)
What a wonderful and productive 2016 you are planning. The pattern you've chosen for your curves is lovely. I love curved piecing, which method are you thinking of trying?
ReplyDeleteThanks Maker Joy! I have high hopes for the year, but who knows what will happen? :) I'm not sure what method for curves I'll try out. I recently looked through A Quilter's Mixology and it had several methods to try. I'll probably try them all and see what works best!
DeleteThat's a wonderful list for 2016. Good luck! Sorry to hear you'll be working a lot. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anja! I'm in charge of the hospitalized patients over Christmas, so I have my fingers crossed that all the animals are healthy for the holiday so I can stay home! Lol. Regardless of working or not, I'm sure I'll have a Merry Christmas with my family. :) Merry Christmas to you too!
DeleteThis is a great list for the upcoming year! I hope you enjoy curves! I've tried many methods and really like pin-less (there is a video tutorial on youtube for drunkard's path blocks).
ReplyDeleteThanks Renee! I hope I enjoy curves too, I've seen so many lovely quilts that use them. I'm sure I'll be on Youtube plenty getting all the help I can find! :)
DeleteThanks for sharing your plans for 2016 through Quilting Jetgirls linky. I like the way you have lots of projects running through your mind!
ReplyDeleteThanks Allison! I feel like my brain is always planning more projects and I can't keep up! Lol.
DeleteA great list of goals. Good luck with the curves. They've been on my mental "I really need to learn how to do this" list for a while now.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm sure I'll need all the luck I can get with curves! Lol. Good luck with them if you tackle them this coming year! :)
DeleteI have to thank you for turning me on to Quilting Jetgirl's planning linky party. I really needed a push to get me going on this. I have been thinking about it for quite sometime, but just hadn't taken the step to do it. I have set my goals and joined the party. WooHoo!!! Let the celebrating begin. Oh, and the quilting. Your goals are great ones and I know you'll be accomplishing them in no time, or at least this next year. I'm sure LBC will be helping you reach them. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! What I like most about my list is that the things on it are things I'm excited about! It's not a list I should do because everybody else is, but a list of projects and ideas that make me smile when I think about them. Indeed, that's something to celebrate! Here's to a year of growing and accomplishing our goals! :)
DeleteI need to get better about labeling my quilts, too, what a great reminder. In terms of blogging, I hope you consider signing up for the New Quilt Bloggers blog hop this year. It's a great way to get behind the scenes technical help along with meeting a group of like minded folks. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne! I considered signing up this year, but I was honestly too afraid to. Lol. I'll keep an eye out for it and see how things go. :)
DeleteWhat a crazy work schedule you have! I hope there will be time to spend with your family as well. As for your goals... phew! That's a lot! But putting them out in black and white is the first step to achieving them! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenn! My work schedule is normally a little wonky, but these 2 weeks are completely batty! I've got my fingers crossed that my patients are all healthy and get to spend Christmas with their families. Not only does that make them happier, but that means I get to spend the holiday with my family as well. :) Looking back, I worry I might have gotten a bit too ambitious, but I'm too stubborn to try and shrink that list! Lol. Here's to a productive year!
DeleteI also tend to blog hap hazardly and I'm aiming like you for 2 a week...or at least one. I also need to be reminded about labels. Good luck with all your projects.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa J.! Good luck to you too! :)
DeleteYou've got a great list going for 2016 - it's a good mix of achievable and stretching your abilities. Your goal about trying curves is a great one. I was always scared of them and tried them for the first time this past year on a bee block. They take a bit of time but the results are always so great. Good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteThanks Diana! I really hope to grow and learn this year, but I wanted to keep things fun and still have some flexibility. I'm hoping I don't change my mind about the fun when I start on curves! LOL.
DeleteThat's a great list of goals! Have fun tackling curves. I use lots of pins!
ReplyDeleteThanks Leanne! I'm looking forward to finally trying curves out. I'm sure I'll start with quite a few pins, but hopefully I'll graduate to a bit less as I get more experienced. :)
