Pixelated Hearts: A Finish

Hey y'all! I have several finishes from 2017 that I still need to share, so let's start this little show off right! First up is a baby/small child quilt. I used this free pattern from Dear Stella that I found on Pinterest and made a block or two to make a dent in my pink scraps, which were becoming a bit overwhelming. I set them aside since I was working on a big commission project (more on that next week!), but God has a way of picking your projects sometimes! I basically went on a quilting bender and finished most of this quilt in a few days once I knew where it was going.

I used the extra pink squares I cut and put them in the binding! Lots of seams but sooooo cute! :)

In my Sunday school class, we've been praying for a little girl that has cancer. Even though I don't know her, I just kept thinking about this poor little girl and wishing I could help somehow. And I just felt this nudge that she needed these hearts. She needed to know that she's got love coming in from all over wishing her good health and recovery.

Pieced backings are extra work, but they make me smile. :)

 Besides a bit of white yardage I bought for the front, this entire quilt (batting included!) was from the stash. For some reason, that makes this finish feel even better! :) Some of those prints on the back are from the first quilts I made for the kids in my family! Though the fabric choices are similar to quilts past, the quilting has improved quite a bit I'd say! FMQ loop-dee-do's with some hearts thrown in make this a cuddly little finish.

I wish I could have taken better pictures of this quilt, but time was of the essence. I literally finished this just before bed and packed it up to be delivered the next morning!

This will forever be my favorite quilt 'pose'! Lol.

A Finished Commission: Herringbone Baby Quilt

Hey y'all! I'm back with another finished baby quilt! Like the previous one I shared, this was finished a little while back, I just had to wait for my client to gift it so it could stay a surprise.

For this one, my client wanted the same feel as the previous quilt, but with a slightly different color palette --- bright blue, pink, coral. So off I went to shop for fabric and what a bear of a trip it was! I circled and circled the fabric stacks for more than an hour before I finally found what I wanted. I was nervous I was settling until I put the binding on, talk about anxiety! Lol.

My client wanted a herringbone look, so I used this tutorial from Rachel over at Stitched in Color. I made some adjustments to make it work for the picture in my head and it went together really quick and easy!

Simple echo quilting rounded things out nicely. :)

I'm just going to point out that the new flooring in my parents' sunroom is to die for and made the absolute perfect backdrop for this quilt!

WIP Wednesday: Do You Believe in Magic...And Pink?

Howdy y'all! I hope your week is going well. I had intentions to blog about these two WIP's sooner, but sewing time trumps blogging time any day these days. But I finally made myself take pictures and sit down to write out a post and I'm so glad I did. I'm excited to share what I've been stitching lately!

First up, some simple squares. If you've been around here long, you know pink is not my color. It never has been, even since I was younger! But on one of those bad days, I saw some leftover fabric from different baby quilts and decided I needed to cut some squares. So I sliced and diced as many as I pleased, then I put a dent in my gray fabrics as well.

I love those little love birds! :)

Before I knew it, I had a mess of squares! I chainpieced a storm and now I've got rows of pink and gray ready to be joined together. I actually made enough that I should have 2 little baby quilts in the end! It's funny how bad days made fun quilts. :)

Every Harry Potter quilt needs a Golden Snitch!

And next is a long term project that I am so excited to have started! I stumbled across the Harry Potter Project of Doom Quilt Along on Fandom In Stitches. Like most people, I absolutely LOVE Harry Potter and I love the idea of an HP themed bookcase! This quilt combined those ideas into an awesome and personalized quilt. The quilt along is long over, but the patterns are still together and full of so much potential. Even better, the Facebook group is still hopping with quilters posting their progress and cheering each other on daily!

A candle for the night time reading that is sure to occur. ;)

I was on the fence about starting because 'What if I need more fabric?!' After pining for a couple of weeks, I decided to take to the stash! It isn't big, but I've got quite a bit of fabric and plenty of scraps. With a bit of quilty ingenuity, I decided to make this a scrappy quilt and have fun exploring the gems I can find hidden amongst the piles. :)

And oh, the fun I've had! Rather than follow the quilt along week-by-week, I decided to pick and choose which blocks to work on as I go. I've got four blocks finished and the fifth one is nearly completed as well!

I knew I had to make a quill from that zebra fabric! And the C+S arrow fabric looks like a broomstick a little bit. :)

The Isabella Quilt: A Finish!

Mr. LBC's first appearance as quilt holder!

I'm so happy to be sharing this one with y'all! This quilt has had a lot of ups and downs, but here she is and I'm so proud of her!

Pretty in Pink!

The piecing went together easy-peasy with such a simple layout. My Mom actually helped pick out all these pink and grays. It was so fun having her input, she has a good eye for fabric. :)

My handwriting in real life is terrible but I managed to pull things together a bit for this! :)

 And I had fun coming up with a font that fit this top! Yay for Heat N' Bond and raw edge applique!

A rainbow striped back. I even managed to match up stripes so it looks seamless! :)

The texture on this one was so lovely, I love this FMQ motif. :)

As you may recall, quilting this thing was a nightmare. The first two-thirds or so did great; I was loving the flower motif and was zooming through things. But then the problems started. Thread kept snapping, needles kept breaking. I ended up in tears, praying my last needle didn't snap before finally finishing the last flower. I had a quilty miracle though when a new machine got passed onto me, free of charge! I plan on introducing it soon, but I will say it has served me well for putting the binding on and piecing some other blocks!

This shows off the backing, binding, and quilting quite well (though it doesn't show the glitter on the fabrics), as well as the lovely green grass that is growing like crazy now!

There were no special requests for a label, so I made a simple label with my name and LBC Quilting on it. I even managed to get it hand stitched on before the sun went down!

For Paris, With Love: A Finished Baby Quilt!

Not so nice weather leads to an indoor photo shoot sadly!

Hey y'all, I have a finish for Finish it Up Friday Saturday and I'm excited to share it! This is the first of the baby quilt commissions I was given not long ago. You guys saw a sneak peek of the fabrics and everybody LOVED the Paris themed print. I can't take credit for it; my client brought it to me as a starting point! If I remember correctly, she and one of the relatives of the recipient went out looking for ideas and fell in love with this fabric. It's only fitting since the baby's name is...you guessed it, Paris!

I had every intention of doing progress posts and blogging about this like usual. But that just didn't happen. I have been running around like crazy since this started it feels like and sadly, all you get is the finish post. The top went together super easy; I think I got almost the entire things cut and sewn while watching Fifty First Dates on Netflix!

Special instructions for this quilt was to have her name on the quilt. They were thinking the front, but I felt like that was going to be too busy. So we chatted back and forth and I suggested putting her name on the back the way I did on the front of the Ella and Garrett quilts. They trusted me, so I got to work! I loved using the font from that Paris fabric to make the name! I have terrible penmanship, but with quilting and a little inspiration, I can clean it up some! Lol.

So much texture with the loop-dee-do's!

I really had to mess with the contrast on this picture to make it barely visible, but I managed to fmq her name into the bottom corner!

Quilting this was both fun and a nightmare. I love FMQ loop-dee-do's and getting to add little hearts was a special treat. But my thread just kept snapping. Over. And over. And OVER. Thing is, this was the first time I tried FMQ with Aurifil thread. I was expecting it to be awesome because I've heard such good reviews about it. It did fine for piecing and I love the light grey color, so it wasn't a total bust, but I'm a bit disappointed in it.

 A scrappy binding! And some of the sharpest corners I've ever made on a binding. :)

I used leftovers from the front to make the binding. As I've said before, I'm not a pink fan, but the pink in the binding is probably my favorite pink print. And those grey dots just have a hint of sparkle!

And the label. I'm so glad I went a little more special on this label. I've cut out some of the names and whatnot for privacy sake, but I had my name and blog name, as well as the name of the family that commissioned it. But I loved getting to use the fabric with her name and the flower to make it more special!

I think he thought this was for him! Silly Elvis! Lol.

I've got one more commission to do, then it's back to my usual projects! Linking up with Finish it Up Friday!

4x7 Sewing Challenge - Week 3 Update

Howdy y'all, hope your weekend treated you well! We've finished the third week of the 4x7 Challenge hosted by Berry Barn Designs! I didn't sew selfishly every day this week, but I've gotten so much done that I don't actually mind. :) As you saw, I finished 'Peels of Patience' last week, which I'm absolutely thrilled with! It's had some cuddle times and I just catch myself looking at it on the quilt ladder when I'm not using it, it's just so colorful.

Within the last week or so, I was commissioned with not one, but two baby quilts! My MIL asked me to make one for a friend of her's and my Mom asked me to make one for a family member. Both are for girls and both are full of pink. Though I hate pink, I do have to say I like what I'm working with. Here's a sneak peek, I'm hoping to get some blog posts together later this week!

This quilt is so happy and bright in real life!

What has been most amusing this week, however, has been when I haven't been sewing. I started walking my Mom through the quilting process this week. It's been hilarious and fun and I've loved it! She's so unsure and panicky at times (I had to make the one cut in her fabric she needed because she was too afraid), but she's having fun! It cracked me up when she was watching me draw out some quilty math in my notebook and she said it was the spitting image of how my Dad approaches his home improvement work. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree it seems! :)

So all in all, I may not have sewn selfishly everyday, but it's been another pretty stellar week. If I can get my hands on some Kona this week, you may be seeing those hexies from week 1 make an encore appearance!

Throwback Thursday: Pretty in Pink

It's the time of the month again, y'all! That's right, it's Throwback Thursday over at A Quarter Inch from the Edge! This month is Christmas themed and though I don't have a Christmas quilt, I have a quilt that was a Christmas present to share!

Until I was 16 years old, I was the baby of the family. Then along came Ms. Ella, a cousin! What a learning experience it was for me to suddenly be sharing the spotlight with a little baby. Moody teenage me got jealous pretty often, though I never admitted to anybody. Growing up some changed that though and I love this little girl to bits. :)

It's hard to tell, but those pink-on-pink polka dots are glittery! :D

I shared before that for last Christmas, I got the hairbrained idea to make all the kids in the family a quilt for Christmas. Ms. Layla's was shared a little while back here, and this was the second one. When I asked Ella's mom for her favorite color, it was an overwhelming PINK! Pink makes me nauseous, but I took one for the team and came home with a stack of pink fabric and got cracking. Although Ella is still pretty young (still in single digits), I wanted this one to be a little bit grown up so that it would be fitting for years.

I love the pieced backing and the quilting. I straight lined around the patchwork sections, then did the big zigzagging through the white areas. I'm not sure why I chose that but I have to pat my past-self on the back for that one! Lol. I didn't mark or anything, so it's certainly not perfect. But I worked harder on this quilting than any of the others and it worked out. :) Also like Ms. Layla's quilt, I appliqued Ella's name on it to give it a personal touch. This was before I started labeling my quilts, so I guess my brain wanted it to be labeled somehow!

I absolutely love this pattern, there's so many possibilities! I think I saw something similar to this on Pinterest originally, but I didn't have a specific pattern to follow. I just decided on the size of square I wanted and built up from there.
